Harvest Celebrations

We have been thinking about the value of ‘Generosity’ in our Collective Worship as we approach harvest. Our whole school Harvest Service took place on Friday 1st October at St Faith’s church and was led by the children in Classes 1 and 2 and the Reverend Max Young. […]

Kick Ball Rounders

Our first whole school PE event ‘Kick Ball Rounders’ took place in September. In Kick Ball Rounders the ball is rolled, then kicked by a member of the ‘Batting’ Team before the children attempt to run around the cones as in a conventional game of Rounders. All the […]

Welcome Back

It is lovely to see everyone again after the summer break and we would particularly like to welcome all our new families who have joined us. The children have settled in so well and it has been a pleasure to watch them return to school with big smiles.

End of School Year Events

These have been a little different again this summer however we have done our very best and managed to organise some key events for the children, especially for our Year 6 Leavers. Our Sports Days are school only events and being held over two days for the children, Class 4 […]

Adventure Plus Climbing Wall

We have had a 30ft mobile climbing wall in the school grounds for all the children (and staff!) to experience. Everyone had a fantastic day; we all enjoyed the challenge and felt a sense of achievement.

Outdoor Classroom

Friends of Shellingford School (FoSS) have raised an incredible £8,500 to help improve our outdoor provision. Recently we had an outdoor classroom installed in the school grounds which will accommodate 30 children and provide classes with a covered space for outdoor learning. We are just thrilled with it. It will […]

ShWimbledon 2021!

We held our ShWimbledon tennis competition in June which involved competitive sessions and mini coaching games led by the Farindgon Tennis Club. The coach commented on how very lucky the children are to have a school which understands the importance of the physical and mental health benefits that sports can […]

Curriculum Activities

Over the last fortnight the children have enjoyed taking part in a number of different curriculum activities. Here are some photographs of our recent ChickenWired Sculpture and Dance Days Workshops and Forest Schools:

Ascension Day Service

Ascension Day comes forty days after Easter and celebrates Jesus’ ascension into heaven. It marks an important transition in the Church calendar and as a reference point for the faith of Christians. We held an outdoor service for the children and staff to reflect on the work of the Holy […]

Easter Bonnets

Friends of Shellingford School (FoSS) organised an Easter Bonnet competition. We were very impressed and clearly much effort had gone into creating these. Here are some photographs of the winning entries:

Mrs Thorp’s Bench

Following Mrs Thorp’s retirement as a Teaching Assistant at Christmas, the Thorp family have given the school a bench with the words ‘May God hold you in the hollow of His hand’ inscribed on the seat. Mrs Thorp had been involved in the school for over thirty years. During the […]

Easter Celebrations

The whole school took part in a ‘RE Big Question Day’ and each class debated the question ‘Whose responsibility is it to look after the world?’  There were many in-depth discussions held as well as practical activities and group work as the day progressed.  Our RE day led the school […]

Science Week

In March we held a week of activities and experiments, some of which linked with Design and Technology.  It was a fun week of hands-on learning which encouraged the children to discuss, plan and reflect on their experiments, work cooperatively and to be creative.  In addition to this, each class […]

World Book Day Celebrations

Whether the children were learning remotely at home or in school we all dressed up as a character from a book.  Once again, we were impressed with everyone’s efforts and classes celebrated together throughout the day.

Home-School Learning

We have been so impressed with the learning taking place at home and at school since the start of January.  Here are some photographs of the children’s work from across the classes for you to enjoy:

Christmas Festivities

Christmas was a little different for us as a school this year, and no doubt for many families as well.  Sadly, we were unable to visit The Watermill Theatre and we missed our usual festive activities and events such as St Faith’s Christmas Fayre.  Nevertheless, we endeavoured to make it […]

Friends of Shellingford School (FoSS) Events

FoSS have been busy organising many lovely events this term.  During the October half-term, a ‘Quest’ was held around the village which raised £185.00.  There was also a fancy-dress competition for children and a virtual quiz for the adults!

Anti-Bullying Week

We had a very positive week which this year has focused on ‘United Against Bullying.’ Across the school we delivered lessons, assemblies and different cross-activities to encourage the children to think about how we can unite to address bullying both online and offline.  We have also been discussing our child-friendly […]

Five to Thrive

Orienteering Challenge

Our second inter-school PE event was held in November.  Each ‘Class Bubble’ took part in a Remembrance-themed Orienteering Challenge around the school grounds and the points were then collated for each ‘Family Group.’ We had brilliant autumn sunshine for the children, as they exercised orienteering skills suited to their age. […]

Act of Remembrance

We held a short Act of Remembrance outside on the playground as a school to mark Remembrance Day.  We were disappointed that The Royal British Legion were unable to attend but pleased that we were permitted to hold a socially distanced commemoration.  A two-minute silence was held during the service […]

Extreme Reading Challenge!

We held an extreme reading challenge during October half-term and received some wonderful pictures.  Our School Council judged the entries and selected a winning entry from each class.  Well done everyone!
